Default get paid to go to church in Louisiana

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...rch-usat_x.htm

Of course you must be white to get the $, its a black church looking for diversity.

$5 on Sunday and $10 for Thursday(?), should be higher for Sunday, especially if preaching alone is over an hour.

I picture the church on "The Blues Brothers", sounds like fun.

Another christian leader that doesn't read his bible.

Mark ~

11:15
And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

11:16
And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.

11:17
And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

Hmmm...if I was a leader in a church, I wouldn't want people who only attended if I paid them. I'd hope they had other reasons for being there!

You mean like trying to earn their way into an eternal afterlife paradise?

No, not trying to earn it...remember, it's by grace, through faith.

There to worship the God who gave it to them; that would be a good reason, imo.

Hola!

You don't have to pay me, I would go to a black church for free if I felt invited and made part of the group. I am from Memphis, and have discovered the Rev. Al Green, mainly through the movie Pulp Fiction. Reverend Al is fundamentalist and his website invites all people to come. I would pay money to see Reverend Green.

Blacks and whites come from a different culture and background. Yes, we do intermingle with each other. For awhile, I was involved with Alcoholics Anonymous, and we had a Sunday morning meeting in Jackson, Mississippi that drew well over 100 people, and it was probably 65-70% black. I never missed a Sunday there. I don't want to go into an argument of AA as a religion, but then it was my church and is was very good.

If I was closeby, I would come to your church, but don't insult me by giving me your money. The money angle might go both ways. A good thing that might result is that drunks and crackheads will flock there to get some money, and maybe the church can minister to their needs. Maybe. When I was 11 or 12, the local church that I went to rewarded us kids with "Baptist bucks", the more you came, the more "bucks" that you were given. In the end, you could trade the "bucks" for toys and whatnot. I got a skateboard. Now, I have always wonderd since, is this a good way to get people to come? I don't think so.

SENOR

PS I have named the fiddle man "Clem". Clem play us a silent song :boohoo: -OK!

"grace through faith"...which they are trying to earn...treasures in heaven/everlasting torment of hell ~ the significantly important details by which they come to their decision to attend...that or ten bucks, apparently.

Or is that what "grace through faith" means after all?

Something given is earned in this scenario, Helen...christian doublespeak notwithstanding.

A gift isn't earned. In theory, at least. But if you were to go into detail about how what some people who profess to be Christians do amounts to 'earning salvation' - which I think is what you're saying - I might agree with you. I don't anticipate I'll agree that it's supposed to be that way although you're welcome to lay out why you think it is, if you believe it's inherent in the theology and I will read it.

The world is full of doublespeak, based on my experience, so, I would be surprised if the church had managed to be completely free of it.

I try to...recognize the doublespeak then negotiate my way around it where I find it, rather than be tripped up by it. I'm not sure what else to do. If you have some better ideas let me know
