Religious Music Played In My Store [Help]
What can I say, or do, to get my managers to stop playing religious music in the store I am temporarily working in?
I've already said: "It is true that it is near impossible to satisfy everyone, but why incite additional tension by playing music that sparks more controversy than any other kind of music? To respect those who are Christian or Non-Christian, religious or non-religious, we should play music that does not delve too deep into religious themes" but it didn't make much of a difference with them. Isn't there a law against playing religious music in public shopping centers? And no - the music they are playing isn't your basic X-mas music, it is pure "Jesus loves you" music. Please help me. Hi Secular future
I have missed you love...want me to be your mercenary? I am not sure if there are any laws against it. You may be stuck there. I think what you told them was very eloquently stated, what was their response when you did try to talk to them about it? Even I admit that would get redundant... |

If the shopping center or store is not publicly owned (that is, by a governmental entity), the owners can pretty much play any music they want. You could try to argue that it creates a hostile environment for you, but I think that lawsuit would be more trouble than it's worth for a temporary job.
I gather that you are in sales and can't wear headphones to block out the noise. They are more likely to change the music if shoppers complain or indicate that they are taking their business elsewhere. Can you get some friends to walk into the store and complain about the music? (while pretending they don't know you, of course.) |

When I complain about the music the managers only say that "You can't make everyone happy". They really make me sick!! They don't care about anyone who isn't Christian. Amie - can you imagine that!?!? Me - working in a store full of Christians!! (If only they knew the real me) |

I can not imagine you working in a store filled with Christians listening to christian music all day, oh boy...they have no idea who they're dealing with I can picture you "hey Christians I really want to believe in God but I can't find a reason" any job to save money is an honorable one. Those managers are indeed annoying saying "you can't please everyone" It sounds like they are not even trying to please anyone other than themselves and playing non christian music is very pleasing to most. You would think after all those complaints they would learn a lesson...sheesh... |

A janitor pushed a customer? Did he get fired. I mean even if it was the customer being an asshole, that is assault. Even if the customer pushed first that would be grounds for termination in many places.
