Lightbulb Ten Steps

O’kay folks, the long awaited, oft anticipated, un-prognosticated, factually instigated, officially legislated, philosophically validated godless program to save the world. You’ll no doubt notice I left items 6 thru 10 open. That’s because I didn’t feel right having all the fun. This must be a community effort so everyone gets to insert their opinion of a positive step necessary to begin a religious free life. This program needn't be restricted to only ten steps it's just that I thought too many steps may complicate matters for the soon-to-be-set-free. Enjoy.

Ten Steps To A Religious Free Life

1. Stop attending any and all religious functions, ceremonies, outings and or rituals.

2. Stop financially supporting any and all religiously affiliated organizations, groups or activities.

3. Stop digesting any and all religious writings, books, magazines, newsletters, tracts or church bulletins.

4. Stop indulging in any and all religiously oriented art forms be they movies, television programs, artistic collections in museums, architectural structures, plays or concerts.

5. Stop discussing any and all subjects associated with the above including gossip, slander, boasting, speculating or bible thumping.

Note: These first five steps backwards are necessary to begin recovery from the addiction. Detoxification begins when separation from the environment responsible for enabling the addiction to progress, is effected.

7. Stop asking god to help you out in the “tight spots”. Look to yourself to get you through.

9. Repeat to yourself: the promise that I'll live forever is a piss-poor reason to think something is true. <img src="graemlins/notworthy.gif" border="0" alt="[Not Worthy]" />

Good one rw!

Perhaps we should put them in the form of the infamous twelve-step-robot-programs available the world over.

Such as :

"1.We admitted we were powerless over theism-that our lives had been taken away from us

2.Came to believe that no power greater than ourselves could permanently remove our sanity"

...etc.

I'd like to suggest a step which I've found very effective in my own life, though:

whenever tempted to let the g** expletive pass our lips (or even g***** for alternative theists)
, try to replace it with the phrase:

"Mythological and Highly Improbable Being"

It takes a measure of doing, but that's often enough to stop you casually buying into the g** awareness of our cultures.

For one thing, you have to think about it first!

Imagine hitting your thumb with a hammer, and remembering to yell "Oh Mythological-and-Highly-Improbable-Being....ON CRUTCHES"

But...just adding a thought here: I know of people who have not had the choice to separate, and it's probably more effectively put them off, as they've sat there and thought "this is nonsense!!!" than had they been free to leave.

Since steps 1 thru 5 are what you should not do, perhaps 6 thru 10 should include the things you should do.

9. Start being skeptical of extraordinary claims that lack any extraordinary evidence to support them.

10. Start helping to free others from religious and intellectual bondage.
