Cool moment in anthropology class
In class today, the professor was discussing human evolution. I had wondered if any creationists wer ein the class and if they'd have any commentary for the professor, but the class was full of rational individuals, thank IPU. The professor then discussed how the conclusions of human evolutionary theory are based on a comparitively small amount of data, and how this could lead to criticisms that it is essentially ad hoc. then he asked who would be likely to make such criticisms.
Well, obviously I knew the answer, but I had already said a lot in class, and wanted to see if anyone else wanted to answer. No one did. The professor then said, "Well, I guess that goes to show the difference between teaching in New York and teaching in Texas." |

Heh.
Reminds me of a day in one of my anthro classes--probably Human Evolutionary Anatomy--when the prof (who was an American and who had started out lecturing in the US) explained how one of the lectures he routinely gave when he started out was on the fallacy of creationism and how it led to "inappropriate evaluations of the evidence" (those were his words) for human evolution. Once he got to Toronto, he stopped giving the lecture because all he got in response was a roomful of puzzled looks. Quote:

Relatively small but still fairly well founded.
