Post On creationists' and evolutionists' views on time and history

I am interested in comparing the two schools of thoughts' view on primarily when time began, and how this affects the age of the Earth. I'll use an example to explain my task.

The Bible accounts for a great flood. This flood happens to occur within the very existence of notably documented civilizations...namely the Egyptian and Chinese Eras. How would both parties explain this dilemma? Clearly theologic thought (I'm primarily referring to Christian) is using a separate account of history and time than your evolutionists. ( Because the creationists would have to say they don't coincide, because of the dilemma it would cause.) What I want to do is reconcile (compare may be a better word) the tools at both parties disposals to justify/support their reasoning for their accounts of time.

1. How do both creationists support the Precambrian Era, Mesozoic Era, and early civilizations with time in years. Usually creationists say the earth is no older than 10000 years I think, whereas evolutionists claim Earth is so many million years.

2. What dating tools do both use and how reliable are they( do evolutionists resort to radiometric carbon dating to establish time periods and eras, and do creationists solely rely on the series of begats in the Bible as well as the Houses, such as that of David?

Long story short, I guess I'm trying to reconcile science to religion

Hope this isn't a convoluted post. Please ask any questions if I didn't make myself clear.

I'm going to move this over to E/C you'll probably get more of a response there.
