"Over 300 fulfilled Messianic Prophecies"
I was recently given a webpage that contained some "prophecies" of the following format:
Gen. 3:15.....Seed of a woman (virgin birth).....Luke 1:35, Mt 1:18-20 Gen. 3:15.....He will bruise Satan's head.....Heb. 2:14, 1 Jn. 3:18 Gen. 5:24....The bodily ascension to heaven illustrated....Mk. 6:19 Gen. 9:26,27...The God of Shem will be the Son of Shem...Lu. 3:36 Gen. 12:3...As Abraham's seed, will bless all nations...Acts. 3:25,26 Etc. Looking at them, the first 20 or so are all ripped painfully out of context and appear to be references to entirely different things than the Messiah. This appears to be nothing more than a particularly creative (and time-consuming) attempt at retroactive shoehorning. I was thinking--this would make great fodder for a parody webpage. Do you think it'd be worth the time to, say, use equally stupid out-of-context Buybull verses to "prove" that Napoleon, Yitzhak Rabin or Saddam Hussein were the Messiah? As a matter of fact, this is the reason I'm asking. I'm pretty sure someone else has done it or something similar by now (such as proving that a famous celebrity was the reincarnation of Captain Ahab from Moby Dick by using "prophetic" quotes from that book). I did a Google search, but it appears any meaningful sites on prophecy are drowned out by tens of thousands of Xian websites. Any help will be appreciated in (A) telling me if such a webpage exists and (B) suggesting a candidate for Messiah I would then shoehorn appropriately, as well as verses which seem to describe him/her. |
