Post Face on Mars

I noticed someone trotted out the face on Mars in the 'When the Gods Come Down' thread. Since we now have much better resolution pictures of Mars than Viking could get, of course the area has been reimaged. Here's one website...

<a href="http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/mgs/msss/camera/images/4_6_face_release/" target="_blank">http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/mgs/msss/camera/images/4_6_face_release/</a>

with a lot of images, but any google search on Mars, face, "global surveyor" or "odyssey" should turn up more than enough info for anyone.

There is no face on Mars.

Cool

There IS a face on Mars.

You just have to take the Cyadonia pictures... turn them upside down, and run a special blurring filter on the picture.... so if you look at it JUST right.... and squint....

I did that, and saw a face in my popcorn at lunch.
I think it was Harpo Marx....

Yes, the higher resolution photos certainly put the Face on Mars theory to rest, didn't they?

Of course, conspiracy theorists can rationalize anything. Either NASA doctored the new photos, or they sent a probe to bomb the face and make it unrecognizable!

Here's an example of Super Dooper Intelligent Design (SDID). What are the odds of natural random events that would produce an item that looks like a face WITH THE EQUIPMENT THAT WOULD BE USED TO FIRST LOOK AT THE STRUCTURE REASONABLY CLOSE, and yet it is a miracle that there is no actual face present. Praise be to the SDID that knew what the state of human technology would be at that exact instant. This was a structure that was millions, if not billions, of years in the making. That takes an SDID.

Or it could be that the human brain looks for patterns.

(somewhat worried that I am trivializing the thread, but looking at other posts, I think this is in line)

There IS a face on mars!!!

And it's a SURface!!

Coincidently, I was born on the twelfth of august. The same day the terrible invasion of the martians started with the launch of it's first wave of warvessels.

"...but still...they come!"

I am! I bought the album in the late '70s, and recently picked up the CD. Justin Hayward (of the Moody Blues) collaborated on it.

the chances of anything coming from mars might be a million to one, but the chances of me coming on mars with my future partner are infinitly more possible. Preferably, with shiny spacesuits, and in sight of a panoramic dome. oo-er!

The face has a name, he is Alalu.
According to an old Sumerian Myth, one of the gods Alalu was banished to the planet Mars for attacking the god Anu. Alalu died there and was buried by his friend Anzu, who carved Alalu’s face on a mountain before returning to Earth to wage war against the other gods. I believe its called The Epic of Zu.
