Info needed on crucifixtion story
I am writing an article for my web page and as an example of harmful indoctrination, I want to put a horrifying account of the crucifixtion of Jesus on there, one like I heard at a Baptist vacation bible school when I was a kid.
This account told about how the lashes cut into his skin and about how much he bled and all sorts of things designed to make a teenager distraught at the knowledge that "Jesus did all this for ME and I don't worship him enough.' This sort of emotional manipulation still makes my blood boil and I want to write about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I guess you could point out the tens of thousands of other people who got the same treatment from the Romans. The lashing was to render the person too weak to struggle, otherwise the execution team (4 guys) would have a rough time trying to nail a full grown healthy man to a board.
Trying to breathe was very hard hanging by you nailed arms (not to mention painful) you had to push youself up with your nailed feet, catch a breath, and slump down again, on nailed feet. If the guards got bored waiting for you to die so they could go home, they would break your legs so you couldn't catch a breath. [ October 30, 2002: Message edited by: marduck ]</p> |

Personally I would drop the idea if you are striving to be delivered from it.
You should really forgive them for the way they caused you harm so you can go on with your own life. Only if you are free from religious bondage either way can you be effective in making this world a better place to live and I wish you be best in all your efforts. |

There is a fascinating depiction of the events on that fateful in an old british movie called 'the life of Brian' - hope that will make you feel a little less guilty

Jack Chick uses those nasty images of Jesus in some of his tracts/comic books, doesn't he? All dripping blood and stuff, ick.
