Talking Reverend Joshua is awesome!!!!!

A voice of reason and tolerance among BaptistBoard bigotry and divisiveness

Reverend Josh, if more Christians were like you, I wouldn't abhor Christianity like I now do. I grew up among people like those who lambast you on the BaptistBoard for your "liberal" views, and I have developed an extreme distaste for it. I commend you for your compassionate insight and perseverance among those who profess to show "God's love" yet exhibit everything but that.

ok, I keep seeing the phrase "commited, monogamous, lifelong" in regards to homosexual relationships like this is the norm.

The statistics I've seen and the people I've dealt with don't uphold this reality. The percentage of "lifelong" partners is very small and of course it depends on what you're definition on "lifelong" is.
It would be nice if someone would post a link over there to that study that showed (IIRC) that divorce in America was highest among Christians, esp. in the SE part of the country.

cheers,
Michael

Thumbs up

Kudos to Rev. Joshua and post-it on that thread!

From The Squire's post closing the thread:

By the by, Joshua if you were to be one of my vassals, I would have been forced to take action long ago. (Freedom of religious thought is not cosidered a feudal virtue.)

How quick to forget Martin Luther and others who have, through "free religious thought", changed the church...

If God says something is disgusting, putrid, & perverse, then THAT is the ONLY way we are to look at it.
Um, isn't Leviticus full of "god saying" that women with their periods are "disgusting, putrid, and perverse" - I mean, men aren't even supposed to sit in the same *chair* that they've sat on, or something. (hmm, I think this is the first time I've wished I had a bible at work - anyone care to look up the verses for me?)

I just hope these nitwits don't lock their wives out of the house for 5 days out of the month!!

duh - skeptic's annotated bible online!!!
Quote:
Leviticus:
15:19 And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.

15:20 And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.

15:21 And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

15:22 And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

15:23 And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even.

15:24 And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.

15:25 And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean.

15:26 Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation.

15:27 And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even.

15:28 But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean.

If you believe everything generally held by pop-culture then you will be recieved just as well as people recieve pop-culture. Then when cultural norms change just change with them in orrder to retian your popularity. Recipe for Eternal truth?

I'm beginning to find it very hard to get annoyed by rabid fire'n'brimstone fundies. Partly because most of them are so over the top that they're more funny than scary, and partly because there aren't that many of them - and pretty much all of those live in a special place inside their own heads full of magical trees and singing horses. Or talking serpents.

Anyway, Rev. Joshua is a lovely man with a heart of gold and his feet firmly planted in the real world. Or as close to it as possible.
