"There's no way to separate the physical from the spiritual when it comes to yoga," said Steve Woodrow, pastor of Aspen's First Baptist Church. "It's not just going to an exercise class to stretch."
What a shit-twinky. Maybe he can't, but the millions of others who do yoga at the Y, community centers, and school gyms every morning sure can. |

I suppose we'll have to expunge any study of Renaissance art from the public schools since it will not be possible to study the Pieta as art without revering it as a religious object.

It's not just their muscles that need to stretch.

It sounds to me like people are arguing over a name. I did not see anything in the actual course content that pertained to any religious beliefs.
If the name bothers people, I would propose that they select a more politically correct name. |

Tai Chi, (or for that matter pretty much all chinese marital arts styles) are originally monastic meditation and exercise techniques as well. Very buddhist. (Chi'an buddhist/Confucianist/Taoist.)
Of course we never got into that part much, aside from the purely physical aspects. (Breath and mental control.) So it seems to separate out fairly well... unlike christianity and pretty much any subject it dips its bloodstained little fingers into... |

I've been to tons of yoga classes, and there's never been any focus on "connecting with a supreme spirit." It's all about being in your body and connecting with your *own* power, not any other.

of course it is religious instruction,
yoga was a powerful Jedi Knight and was wise in the ways of the force, you wouldn't want kids taking Darth instruction would you? |

So connecting with your own power would be denying the supremacy of God, or something silly like that. cheers, Michael |
