Quantum teleportation
Guys, there is a recent breakthrough in quantum teleportation, here is the link:
<a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_2049000/2049048.stm" target="_blank">http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_2049000/2049048.stm</a> Anyway, I'm not fully clear with the entire process. For instance, why will the original copy be destoryed in order for teleportation to take place and what actually is quantum connection? <img src="confused.gif" border="0"> |

Simply put?
Because EPR entanglement basically means that you need to alter the state of one set of photons (i.e. 'destroy' them) in order to get the entangled photons to alter correspondingly (i.e. to 'make them exist') Of course, it's a lot more messy than that, but one good thing about quantum effects is that they be simplified into very entertaining and odd models for lay understanding (including, to an extent, my own). And what is it? About as much as anything else in physics, simply a model of reality. No-one is quite sure how it all really works, to be honest. Just a lot. |

Quantam physics, string theory, super string theory, etc, are just fancy scientific ways for people to say "Pfffft. I dunno."

Sorry, you do not get to put quantum mechanics in with string theory. The various interpretations perhaps...

Is Quantum teleportation by any chances linked to string theory?

Hi Liquid, do you have any other links to ERp entanglement?

Alain Aspect showed EPR entanglement in 1982, so I put: EPR Aspect 1982 in Google and it said there were 1900 plus references. Lots of them in other languages <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" />
Start with EPR_paradox which gives 9 google ref; then try the other phrase. I guess the new results in the OP are improved laser tests of the original Aspect lab work. I would try to find the best ref but I have to go out for a while. I'll dig some more when I get back. [ June 24, 2002: Message edited by: Bluenose ]</p> |
