I think we know the answer to that question Wombat. I'm glad they're not in my district either. What is even more sickening is that all the Republicans that were there gave her a standing ovation after her apology. Like she did something really great and it had nothing to do with maintaining her political career. This kind of crap makes me sick.

Political operatives at that level don't have feelings (that count anyway.) I bet they are upset with her because she dissed a particular voting bloc, an ethnic-cultural group that Karl Rove has put some effort into wooing for the Republicans. She also undermined the premise of Bush's faith based initiative, that all religion is good and peaceful.

I wonder if they'd consider just dropping prayer altogether from public forums. Keep that separation like the framers intended. (I suppose the arrogant Christians probably think separation is actually only for state and other people's religion.)

From the Seattle Times;

McMahan, a conservative Christian Republican from Gig Harbor, said she chose to stay off the floor during the prayer to protest U.S. Muslim leaders who she said had not condemned the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks strongly enough.

But Tuesday she contradicted herself in a written statement in which she said she had stayed off the floor for personal reasons and not as a political statement.
