Thumbs up Peer Reviewed Dembski Bashing!

I am sure most of you here are familiar with William Dembski's Filter that can supposedly detect design.

<a href="http://inia.cls.org/~welsberr/zgists/wre/papers/BIPH_164-00.htm.bak" target="_blank">The advantages of theft over toil: the design inference and arguing from ignorance</a>

Quote:
Abstract:
Intelligent design theorist William Dembski has proposed an “explanatory filter” for distinguishing between events due to chance, lawful regularity or design. We show that if Dembski's filter were adopted as a scientific heuristic, some classical developments in science would not be rational, and that Dembski's assertion that the filter reliably identifies rarefied design requires ignoring the state of background knowledge. If background information changes even slightly, the filter's conclusion will vary wildly. Dembski fails to overcome Hume's objections to arguments from design.

Heh Heh... doesn't a favorite complaint of ID'ers go something along the lines of "ID opponents say they believe in peer-review, but they never bother to get their critiques of ID theory published in the peer-reviewed literature"?

You gotta admit, though.... ID proponents do have it pretty easy these days. Generally, before one can enjoy seeing his/her work demolished in the peer-reviewed literature, he/she must go to the trouble of getting that work published in a peer-reviewed journal in the first place. Dembski has obviously found a way around that unpleasant little chore!

Actually the article is already published <a href="http://www.kluweronline.com/issn/0169-3867/current" target="_blank">here</a>. But it requires a subscription.

Done, but given their very heavy handed moderating tactics I doubt it'll last very long.

Would Dembiski's filter detect itself as being "Intelligently Designed" or not because its designer wasn't intelligent?

Pretty funny Jimmy.

Hmmm, just looked ar ARN and not a single reply. I am not sure if the whole concept is over their heads or if they just don't want to confront an unpleasant reality.

Jesus Christ its Jesus Christ. Dang if I had known you posted here I'd have been better behaved. I just checked ARN again, my last post seems to have killed the thread.
