"Feng Shui" at my Hosuing Authority
Check out this story.
I am outraged. John Wardlaw spent $6,000 to a group of Feng Shui conmen. 2 Letters decrying this action have already been printed in today's paper. I wrote a letter today calling for Wardlaw to be fired. Something needs to be done about this. Someone needs to be held responsible. I will not tolerate spending of my tax dollars on spiritual conmen. Any suggestions on what the best course of action would be? I'd like to protest this as much as possible. I'd like to find out who Wardlaw's superior is, and have a letter-writing campaign to him. I want this man out of office. -B |

You might want to check out the Hartford Housing Authority website.
also the City of Hartford website. According to the Message section of the Housing Authority website, John D. Wardlaw is the Executive Director -- so I would guess his boss would be the Mayor?? I don't know how much attention they would pay to someone from out of state, but it wouldn't hurt. Any Hartford infidels out there?? |

This is probably more of a science and skepticism topic, since AFAIK feng shui is not based on religion. But I guess the secular activism fits in here.
I'm of mixed feelings. About half of what I see in feng shui is just good interior design and esthetics. But when the consultants start trying to block of fire doors to keep the qi from escaping, it's time to draw the line. If this were the worst misuse of government funds, life would be good. |

Well, I wrote to the mayor, and I asked the HHA who I could contact. I realize it's a minor thing in the grand scheme, but goddamnit it pisses me off. Minor things are the easiest to change, right?
Thanks for keeping the topic here, Toto. I don't think we need debate in S&S to know that feng shui is complete bullshit. It's not necessarily a religion, but it has all the qualities of a religious belief and definitely fits secular activism IMO. -B |
