If you are religious, how can you philosophise?
If you are religious, how can you philosophise? Religion gives the user a pre-defined philosophy, which must be adhered to. There is no discussion, only justification.

My reply : Religion that doesn't promote the mind is a dead religion. God doesn't live your life, you do. Your statement above is equal to saying that Heaven is guaranteed as long as you enter a specific religion and follow like a cattle. Sorry ... I don't think that is how religions works. |

I agree with you Matt. Most religious just use philosophy to try to justify their religion. Actually I wonder if they've ruined philosophy somewhat by so doing.

Here is a way of looking at philosophy and religion:
Trust those who seek the truth (philosophers- lovers of wisdom/truth). Doubt those who claim to have found the truth (religious types- those who have been deceived). |

Why seek the Truth IF You don't wish to find it?
Why seek the Truth IF by finding it, it means you have been deceived? |

Religion is simply philosophic dogma.
And of course you can find answers with philosophy just not all the answers. Certain answers can't be known with certainty unless a person can see the future, or have perfect knowledge, etc. And without wanting to get into semantics too much, the difference between a cult and a religion is merely based on the size. "Religion is simply philosophic dogma."
My reply : Acceptable. Religion is simply process of seeking the Truth and accepting what your mind say is the truth, since both process must go hand in hand. "And of course you can find answers with philosophy just not all the answers. " My reply : Acceptable as well. The answer you seek is not the complete truth, it is YOUR truth. "Certain answers can't be known with certainty unless a person can see the future, or have perfect knowledge, etc." My reply : Acceptable as well. Hmmm ... did you just describe God? "And without wanting to get into semantics too much, the difference between a cult and a religion is merely based on the size." My reply : Not very sure about this. What you mean by religion is based on the size? |

But "to feel" or "to think" are both based on logic. The only difference being that feelings are based on logic that hasn't been examined for possible mistakes. That is the only difference. Quote:
