The other day my rose bushes started blooming. So I cut two bunches of buds and took them to my female friends, T and J, who live next door to each other. T is "just a friend" while I would like J to be more (and both T and J know it).

We joked about what red and yellow roses mean when given to someone (we don't know for sure the traditional meaning), and how I had had to put a mixture of red and yellow in each bunch to make sure I was being "even handed" in whatever emotions I was expressing.

To top it off, a week later J's bunch of buds has blossomed beautifully (both red and yellow); on the other hand T's yellow buds opened while the red ones are still just buds. T thinks (jokingly) this must be saying bad things about her prospects for a love life. I of course would like to think there's another reason J's red roses blossomed while T's didn't.

Anyway - who here knows what is the traditional meaning of red and yellow roses as a gift? I suppose red roses mean love, or lust, or somesuch - what about yellow?</strong>
Red = Love
Yellow = Texas, or Friend, as applicable...

Perhaps the difference is that one of them put an asprin in the water, and thus got fuller, healthier blooms?

Thanks, Dark Jedi. I've put the question in its "proper place" here:
