So what? Now I'm conversing with a guy that has a handle WWsD? May I ask what that stands for and not ass u me?

I read your posts and enjoyed most of them. You seem very rational, funny and witty. No doubt you are a smart guy and you're well read. So we can discuss some things. I may of gotten off on the wrong foot with Cthulhu/Cutter, as he made some good points on this last page (pg.5). Sorry if I affended you.

Since this is like my 16th post on this BBS and I'm obviously a rookie; I am no dummy and I will show my respect for the senior posters here - I kept about 3 pastors very busy when I was becoming a Christian, with my questions and research. I refered to myself as a heathen often. I am not proud and I do not apologize for not knowing something or asking questions, because I usually do my research very well.

God still talks to me, not as often as when I was first converting, but every so often. He usually has me help people. I pray that He will have me on His team, doing the things that He wants me to do. My first five years or so as a Christian were full of vigure; we converted 30 of our friends to Christ in just the first year, and then less and less each year after. We did however do alot of evangulistic work and we did encounter many challenges and struggles along the way.

One day I decided to back up and take a new perspective; I'd gone past my original 5 year commitment by about 2 years and decided I needed to make some changes.

Today I live a much simplier life style, in a very small summer resort town in BC, Canada. My time with my family is very cherished and God is still working wonders in our lives.

What brings you here everyday? What are you accomplishing by posting here and spending time with me? Are you young, old or mid-lifed? Do you have children?

My grandson, Oh, what a joy in my life! I have 5 children and look forward to having lots of grandchildren one day.

I'm logging off for today.
Good-night to you.

Perhaps you could refer me to some good threads on this BBS, ones that will enlighten me on what this board is about. I've gone through alot of jibberish one's, but with over 2 years on the board, I'm sure you can rec. some good ones. I'd like to read them, if you wouldn't mind.

Thx

Hi Robinsin,

I'm glad you weren't offended by my post, and even happier that you enjoyed it.

WWSD had some good advice, and let me second that: just because of time constraints, you'll have to pick and choose who and what you reply to. That's true for not just you, but anyone; there are many more things on these boards than there is time to reply to even if you were to spend 24 hours a day online.

There are many interesting threads; one you may find interesting is the Atheists' Testimony thread in Secular Lifestyle & Support. I'd recommend that you not worry about responding to any of the posts (particularly since the earlier ones are a year and a half old), but you may find them to be interesting reading.

And if you want to get a feel for what the site is about, you're always welcome to browse the library.

I'm surprized he came back.

Robinsin, what you say has been said before many times by people of all religions. So, what makes your god stand out amongst the others?

Have fun and stick around. We could use a few more theists on here.

Thanks . Actually, what I wrote was to malookiemaloo but if you found it helpful, I'm glad!

If you want to have serious discussions on these boards the best way is to take one or more of your questions and ask them in the General Religious Discussions Forum. If you ask questions in a straightforward way, you will make a completely different impression from that made by a post which is entitled "God bless you!!!" Can you see why a title like that doesn't make it clear that you're here to discuss anything? I hope so.

Or, you needn't even start any threads; you could simply join in the ongoing discussions on that forum.

If you read the ongoing discussions you will learn much about the way people think here and why they don't believe in God or that the Bible is reliable. I think you'll find that 'disappointment with Christians' is not their main reason for not embracing Christianity although it may indeed be part of their experience. But - why don't you ask - and then you'll find out...

Oh, by the way, there is a long thread called Atheist's testimony which will tell you how many people here got to where they are today, regarding their non-belief in God.

take care
Helen

There's a difference between answering questions by sharing your beliefs honestly and straightforwardly, and 'witnessing'. 'Witnessing' implies a concerted effort to 'convert' the nontheists here rather than having a back-and-forth discussion. 'Witnessing' implies "I'm right; you're wrong there's nothing to discuss so I won't stick around to see what you posted in response to my sharing of the Word of God with you". And Christians regularly do that - they post one post and never come back to respond to the posts back to them. They are the so-called 'hit-and-run' posters. The person who started this thread appears to be one even though he (?) lasted a little longer than just one post.

If you share your beliefs here, in answer to questions, then the non-theists here will strongly disagree with you and probably ask you a lot of questions about why you believe certain things. Maybe more questions than you have time to answer. But that doesn't mean they 'frown upon' your attempt to answer questions. Most nontheists here will respect that and the ones who've been here a while will know it's rare to find a Christian with the perseverance to do that.

take care

Thanks Helen

I'm a mother and grandmother. I agree that parenthood is immensely rewarding. I enjoyed encouraging my children to think critically and it was helped by their having to study philosophy as part of their school courses. My children, who range in age from 22 to 42, are all now happily atheist. I suspect that being an atheist parent is at least as satisfying as being a religious parent.
