God is not comprehendable to the human mind to think he is would be a little silly. Well thats what I think anyway. If God was comprehendable then there would be no free will as everyone would believe in God. So you can only thank God for free will.

And if he was also omnipotent and omniscient, that would essentially make free will pointless.

So you can only thank God for making free will pointless.

If god is not comprehendable then how do you come to know anything about him? How do you know the "true" meaning of his words or commands? What significance do any stories or teachings hold if god is truly beyond comprehension?

It seems like some Christians want it both ways - what makes sense is obvious and true. What does not make sense or is contradictory, is deemed "beyond comprehension."

thats what the Bible is for. I'll tell you something else i can't really begin to understand- the infinit universe and who started the big bang. I am happy to have faith in God it gives me hope in life but you must see that Science can't explain everything.

How do you know that the Bible is telling the truth? You can't logically use it to verify its own authenticity.

Forget it. Paul's already surrendered his rational faculties for existential comfort. You can't reason with people who hold their delusions dearer than a painful truth.

If god is not comprehensible to the human mind, are we then to assume that you are not human but a different species than the rest of us on the board? Otherwise, how can you know what, by definition, you can't know? Are you willing to admit that you're really an agnostic since you can't claim any knowledge regarding "god" since it's incomprehensible?

And if I do have "free will," why would I need to thank anybody for it if it's free and my own? If someone is in charge of my will it cannot be considered mine; and if there are rewards, punishment, and coercion attached it cannot be considered free.

You have it backwards, by the way--if the god you proclaim exists is all-powerful and all-knowing, then you have no free will since nothing you can do falls outside of "god's plan" and was settled before the universe was created. In any case, as biological organisms in specific environments we already have our wills quite severely limited. At which point "free will" just becomes a fancy way of saying that you have a choice whether you want to Super-Size your Value Meal or not, or whether you'll wear your blue shirt tomorrow in stead of your green one.
