What's a resolution?
On Wednesday, the Senate voted and passed a “resolution” against the ruling of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Can someone tell me what exactly a resolution is? Is it some sort of formal procedure in Congress? Or is it merely all the Senators getting together to say “ok, let’s see who’s for this and who’s against this”. What is supposed to be the result of passing a resolution? Thanks.

It is an official act of the Senate but has no real effect - just political posturing. It is just a show for the voters, and puts the Senators on record as being in favor of one position or another.

Thanks. My first impression was that it was kind of a childish thing to do if it had no effect. But I can see that it serves a purpose of letting people in the states know where their Senator stands.
