Alan D Cooper - Anyone ever heard of him?
I have a book sitting on my desk by Alan D Cooper, called "The Agony of Victory, the Ecstacy of Defeat". It's very intriguing... a few quotes:
"In our momumental attempt to hide from the reality of pain, we have gone so far as to call ourselves sinners, thereby explaining away the vast pain of mankind as justifiable punishment for our naughty behavior." "It is imperative that as many of us as possible continue to seek the truth, but we must not put contingencies in our contract that say we will only search if we personally get the best seat in the house when the truth finally opens on Broadway." "If you could, somehow, stop needing a reward for your sacrifices, you would see that, indeed, the God who you thought was impressed with your New Age hipness is a puppet dangling from the strings of your own ego." "If life and God and Cosmic Reality was unfortunate enough to contain anything but the most Polyanna of truths, these unpleasant realities could whistle Dixie before anyone would dare let them synapse in their country club mentality brains." Does anyone know anything about this guy? I'd hate to get sucked into some sort of Hare-Krishna-like philosophy, or finish this really difficult book only to find the last chapter or two exhorting me to give all my worldly possessions to a Swami somewhere. |
