Wink How do you achieve a morally sound vegetarian utopia? Vegies have no clue.

How do you achieve a philosophically sound vegetarian utopia?
What regime (A prevailing social system or pattern.) would it take to achieve the desired goal of our vegetarian members, ie people don’t eat meat anymore. We know what you want, yet how would you get there from here? You have been talking about the moral/rational/economic implications of eating meat, but what do you have to say about the necessary regimes needed to establish your goal? Or do you think you can just talk everyone out of the need and/or desire to eat meat, with your moral/rational arguments?
Bill Snedden, other mods here, if this topic degenerates into another round of insults and ad hominem attacks, feel free to edit it as you see fit and/or shut it down.

DP, I would sugest you rephrase the header to something like this. How do you Achieve a philosophicallay sound vegetarian utopia.
It should be interesting to read what our Vegie members have to say on this topic. I wonder if they've even thought of how to get to there from here.

Well, it doesn't seem possible. You'd either have to exile me or send me to re-education camp.

Coercion is the only method. You can't convince an entire society of anything.

So, once you adopt coercion, it will be undermined by the black market.

You would need to have the participation of the affected in this philosophical utopia - namely the animals themselves.

This is not possible since the animals don't have a mind of their own and a way to communicate with us.

Well, different veggies have different needs and desires. For a start, stock up on compost and sand. Organize competitions for the largest pumpkins, they'll feel much better about themselves. Make sure the cabbages exercise some. Install climate control and pretty soon all your onions will peel off and everying will be Moore-ish!

Oh yes, final point, train the rabbits into carnivores to keep guard against vegans.

Just a reminder: Many, if not most, vegetarians have no desire to convince others not to eat meat. My husband, a vegetarian, grills the best steaks and chicken in town; he's very proud of them.

This really isn't contributing to the thread at all, but I just had to add:

I have a vegetarian friend who not only cooks meat for others, but who also will go so far as to taste it. She chews it to gauge it's flavor, and then spits it out. I find this hilarious everytime I eat at her house (Her meals are always delicious.)

I believe it's vegetarian utopia, not vegetable utopia, John. But your reply is pretty funny.
