Discovery: The power of the mind
Did anyone watch Discovery yesterday?
There was a fantastic program about the power of the mind. I saw some stuff about the effect of hypnotising patients before surgery, especially with burn victims. Studies have shown that patients with hypnotism/self-suggestion, heal faster, have less infections and leave the hospital sooner. There was also other stuff about people who had tumors, that through visualisation made the tumor disappear. It was stated that humans can have no thought, or feeling or change of anykind, without physical changes. The most interesting part was this: Two groups were made, the first group should do physical excersize for two weeks. The other group should also do the excersize, but only in their mind! The study showed, that those who did the physical excersize gained 30% muscle, while those who only thought of it, gained 16% muscle!!! We can actually train our body through our thoughts and the power of the Mind. Waddya think? What can we acheive by our minds? We should be able to heal our body through the pwoer of our minds. I guess it takes some practice though, but wouldn't it be worth it? No more health plans. insurances would not be so important and so on. DD - Mind Spliff |

I don't doubt that you can control your bodily functions with your mind, but as for causing muscle growth just by 'thinking about exercise,' i doubt it. I also am skeptical about mkaing tumors dissapear through visualization. Don't get your hopes up of being superman via training your mind i'll have to tell my pvr to record this the next time it's on.

Gurdur, I am not saying that fractures nesasarily can be healed, however, a lot of diseases would be history, if this was used more.
Yeah, if someone is hit by a car and is in a coma, no visulisation can be used, the patient is not concious. So plz, be silly Yeah, tape it, it was very interesting. DD - Love Spliff |

Is this the same Discovery channel that was airing the show about the Roswell UFO incident, or Noah's Ark?

some years ago i used to love discovery channel. but after some extremely poor evidenced stuff, and a not so subtle smell of comercialisation.....yuk....
there was one about the airport o'hare. now a good friend of my mother is a pilot. when i told him what was said...he said that it was the stupidest amatoristical thing he heard....then i told him it was on dicovery....he thought i misunderstood.... there was a program about telepathy.... zombies .... distance viewing with your mind (is that what it's called).....all done with facts to surprise you like big numbers or cases with lots of coincidence...that left you in confusion and in the position to say....well....if it happens...maybe it's true...allthoguh they never actuially said it.... i rather read a book. |

Is there an actual study showing that tumor growth can be slowed or stopped by visualization? If there is, I'd be very interested in seeing it. For one thing, you'd want to you'd want to start studying these people and see how it works, for instance does it work by changes in hormone levels, changes in gene expression, or what. I'm definitely skeptical.

Possibly Darth Dane has confused those with "making tumours disappear". Dr Rick would be your best bet for info on this. |
