Amos, I have an historical problem with your discussion of Jesuits. The Society of Jesus was created to fight the Protestants originally. They were an elite cell of catholic fanatics who would stop at nothing to mess up protestantism. They were terrorists in the modern sense. That they eventually became an intellectual order centered around colleges is another story. They may indeed have used the nasty nihilistic methods you mention to culturally destroy "pagan" peoples, but they were originally assigned to destroy the hated protestants. You would have made a great Counter-reformation fanatic Jesuit.
As for the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, I don't know what it has to do with the Mormons. That was just Hollywood. If anything it was raving paganism. Nietzsche's dionysius perhaps. The Olympics are humanistic, worldly and reek of sensuality, the human form and the material world. All you religious types, fundy to catholic to mormon, all step aside, for the sensual human form flexing its youthful muscles in athletic competition. The Greek Ideal, not the other-worldly sick christian ideal. Nietzsche's Superman, not the declining crucified one. Great skating, though. |
