Old design mistakes thread?
Is there an archive? or does someone have saved that old thread about the mistakes in the design of nature? Optic nerve, prostate, etc...
There was some name in the title that started with an "O". Thanks in advance! |

The thread was called 'Oolon's big list of suboptimal designs', or something close to that, posted by Kevin Dorner, who added heaps of links. Now, if only the search function were on atm, I'd link you to it. Next time the search is available, look in E/C for "Oolon's". Meanwhile, many of the points have come up again in this thread. And if only I could get my arse in gear, it would be a web page by now! Hope that helps. Cheers, Oolon |

That's funny, I knew the name was 5 letters long and that it had a lot of 'o' 's in it - strange the things you remember...
Yeah I noticed that the search function wasn't working. I looked through the six pages that are currently show up in E/C but the thread is too old. Thanks, I'll try to search later. P.S. - No pressure, but if that thread is as good as I remember, a webpage would be great! |

There was also an earlier thread worth searching out, called 'Hey Oolon!' started by Vorkosigan. (That version of 'my' list has a few slight errors which Kevin corrected in the later thread.) 'Hey Oolon!' ran to dozens of pages, thanks to a cretinist whose name escapes me. So between those two threads, plus Mr Darwin's one about the fetal blood circulation in the one I gave above, there's plenty of further details on many of the examples. Cheers, Oolon |

I managed to scrape up everything but the original thread before the server bled out again. Enjoy.

That was the most fun I will never have again!
(Edited to say AAAAGGGHHH! Just looked at the old discussion and realized it was on the old board--moving to the new one made it lose all its lovely formatting, images, and links, dammit.) |

I got to page five and had to quit. I'm trying to get over an anger problem, not resurrect it!
That was excruciating! And the worst part is, most of his offspring (Disciple, yguy, fatherphil, etc.) probably read that and think he's a genius when he never says anything at all. Well, other that "Please repost this in format X. Ok, now do it in format Y. Now do it in format X again, with annotations. You're annotations are wrong. You lose." |

Isn't it about time that somebody headed over to ARN to ask them about poor and suboptimal designs in the "intelligent design" forum? I'm not volunteering because I simply don't have that kind of time right now, but I'd really like to hear how they rationalize something like the fetal circulatory system!
