Question B-166-ER

Did anyone else notice that the name of the first machine to rebel was B-166-ER which equals BIGGER?

I couldn't decide between the second renaissance Pt 1 and 2. I think they have to be taken as one clip. I picked number 2, because, While I liked part 1 a tad better, pt 2 showed humanity as it really is: selfish, arrogant and irrational.

Number one was better in sheer storytelling though and I liked it more.

I liked all of the clips. Beyond was fascinating, showing how a buggy program spot would be perceived in the Matrix, with messed up physics, graphics etc. Kind of like how the Wonder Twins in the movie had the "no clipping" cheat. (I guess being a video game bug tester for Acclaim at one time gives me insight on that).

Matriculated was kind of hard to get. I think the important thing to pick up is when the two characters are discussing what they're doing, and one says she's concerned because they're kind of lying to the bot. In a sense, they are showing the bot something, like a promise of companionship, or sex, or humanity, and it's really a scam, because they can't really give those things to the bot. But the hope is enough to convert the bot. Anyone picking up a religion metaphor? They convert the bots with the promise. That's what I think the bot was after when he put the girl back in. But she recoiled. Seems almost like he was trying to consummate, and she didn't want to.

More than anything I wonder how this will relate to the 3rd movie.

If they do include this idea, perhaps the final movie will hinge on a kind of "Triumph of the human spirit" dealie. But it is significant that they would be offering something to the bots that ultimately cannot be delivered. Unless Agent Smith's crossover is a part of it.

Is it possible that the machines and humans will trade places? That the humans will regain control over them by somehow tricking/tempting them into a different virtual world that they will happily accept? They could keep control this time by never allowing them to realize how they are being used purely for the humans benefit because in their heads they exist in a robot fantasy world.

Or maybe they will kiss and make up and Keanu will marry a droid or sumthin, I dunno.

Same character name in both the movie and the short, and same actor too.

I voted Matriculated; it was a total mind-fuck. The only thing that could have made it better is if some type of mind-altering substance would have been handy. Did the same people who did Aeon Flux do Matriculated or did Matric just rip them off? Anyway, the way I understood the ending was exactly what biff said.

Default Animatrix

I searched through the recent threads, but I haven't been able to find anybody discussing this wonderful DVD I just bought. It's beautiful, especially the piece done by Square.

I just want to recommend to anyone who likes good animation (and anyone who wants to delve more deeply into the story of the Matrix)--buy this DVD!

Default There's already a thread

There's already a thread covering it. "Poll: Favorite Animatrix Clip."

Second Renaissance Parts 1 and 2 are doing well. I'll bump it up for you.
