Omigod, "Ventura Mistakenly Declares 'Christian Heritage Week' "
From the gloating folks at Dobson's Focus on the Family;
Ventura Mistakenly Declares 'Christian Heritage Week' By Steve Jordahl, correspondent The wrestler-turned-governor whose disdain for Christianity [ie; myth belief systems] is no secret has — accidentally — signed a proclamation calling attention to the nation's Christian roots. He says he didn't mean to, but Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura — long known for his strict stance on the separation of church and state — has declared Oct. 13-19 as "Christian Heritage Week." The proclamation quotes several Founding Fathers describing government's dependence on Christian principles. Tom Prichard, who heads the Minnesota [Christian] Family Council, said signing it was quite an oversight on the part of the governor. "Apparently they, before, had monitored this quite closely and more recently they didn't," Prichard said. "It was more of a staffing situation. Maybe somebody on the staff didn't realize that this was [christian propaganda] something the governor has had a strong opinion on in the past." But by the time it was signed, it was too late. "They just say it was a mistake," Prichard said. "They tried to rescind it, but the (Minnesota) secretary of state said, "Well, once it's been filed and stamped, its official. So you can't rescind it." Some — such as David Barton of WallBuilders — see it as providential.. "It's reminiscent of what George Washington said after the attempt of Benedict Arnold that turned out quite different from what had been planned, and Washington said, 'You have to be worse than an infidel not to see the hand of God in what's happened here,' (spoken like the true infidel he was...)" Barton said. The historian said God is not without a sense of humor when He directs the minds of men. "I think a lot of people are kind of chuckling under their breath and saying, 'You know, he didn't intend to do this, but God pulled if off anyway,'(hohoho...you so funny, God... funnier than the Inquisition!!) " Barton said. "So, you could certainly class it in that providential kind of category." Pritchard calls it poetic justice, given the fact that the wrestler-turned-governor refused to acknowledge the National Day of Prayer earlier this year. Ventura once told Playboy magazine that organized religion was "a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers." (okay..so the truth hurts). |
