I need some help
There is an interesting article on the Cosmological Argument at The Skeptical Christian that I need help refuting. I would appreciate any help any of you can give me. Thanks!

They state that everything that "begins to exist" must have a cause. I don't think that most cosmologists (or quantum physicists for that matter) would agree with this statement. Their attempt at shredding virtual particle pairs is especially interesting. Have them explain to you what happens at the event horizon of a black hole, or maybe they can give an alternative theory to explain Hawking radiation. Once again, the xians are bringing the Second Law of Thermodynamics into the picture, also know as the law of entropy. Everything progresses towards disorder, right? So, how could this universe become more ordered through time? The key to remember about the 2nd law of TD is that it applies only to closed systems. The Earth is not a closed system, considering the amount of radiation it receives from the Sun. As for the universe, how can we be sure that it's a closed system? For all we know, there may be a huge influx of matter... we don't know enough yet. One theory proposed is that universes are formed "inside" black holes. If that's the case, then this is definitely not a closed system. In closing, it's their first statement that fails. And, as they like to say in the south, if the dog can't get off the porch, it sure won't hunt. So, destroy their first premise, and you're on your way. Where do they have empirical proof that everything that exists has a cause? Hope this helps. I'll post more when I have the time. Tenspace |
