Bible and slavery, rape and women as property
I'm debating this on another board, and I've given verses to support this, however, one of the fundies on the board claims that slaves weren't slaves but voluntary servants.
Anything to disprove this? Also, anyone can point me to smth. very specific on women as property? |

I can't offer any thing to help disprove this but I do have a story to share.
My ex-fundy girlfriends brother (21) recently seperated from and divorced his wife (22). He was having a really hard time of it so I thought I would step in and share my experience with women with him. One night we were talking about how he intended to fight the divorce in court. I told him that he was making her miserable as it was and that the right thing to do was to fold and give her what she wanted. He countered with it was not biblically right and that God would step in and make things right if she would let him. I then suggested the worst case scenario. What if all this fighting made her miserable enough to attempt suicide. His response sent chills up my spine. He said "if she does it then thats her problem". This from a guy that claims that he loves her so much that he can't live without her. Then a few weeks later in a conversation with his sister he says that she has no right do divorce him because she belongs to him. He then uses the Bible to back up his claim of ownership. Ironically I have told my girlfriend that my primary reason for opposing marriage is the tradition of women as property. Needless to say she was not happy to hear her brother say that. |

I think you might get more responses in BC&A.
