NASA to spend $15+K to fight 'twinkies'
An article in the SJ Mercury News reports that NASA is going to fight the conspiracy theorists who say that the moon landings didn't happen.
Sonoma State astronomy professor Phil Plait says "It's a real shame that it has to be done. It's beneath NASA's dignity to give these twinkies the time of day." Prof. Plait runs the Bad Astronomy website which debunks space myths at http://www.badastronomy.com The article states that in 1999, a poll found that 11% of Americans doubted the moon landings. After the Fox network put on a show, "Conspiracy Theory: Did We Really Land on the Moon?" last year, the number of ignorami(my term)increased to 20%.The article doesn't say who conducted the poll. NASA has hired a former aerospace engineer, James Oberg, to counter the skeptics. I'm going to e-mail the Fox network and ask them to televise Mr. Oberg's rebuttal, in the name of balanced programming. Gilly |

Why spend all that money when all they need do do is hire the strong right arm of Buzz Aldrin?
His anti-conspiracy skills pack a punch. |

What is so irrational and incongruous is that these conspiracy nuts don't extend their skepticism to their God-belief.

Why not just send another man to the moon and take one of the ignorami and leave him/her there. Leave a months worth of food, water and air and a radio with which to talk to earth. That should settle it once and for all and take a moron out of the gene pool.

My question is this: if the overwhelming evidence that already exists out there in the form of NASA photos, NASA employee (including astronauts!) personal accounts, moon rocks, etc. doesn't convince the conspiracy theorists, what can NASA do now that will convince them?!?

LOL, they don't understand that conspiracy theories are as immune to counter-evidence as religion is!
You just know that the kooks are now convinced that the government is in "damage control mode" with this initiative, thus proving them right after all! |

Yeah, so in my opinion a better way for NASA to spend $15+K is to fund a graduate student for a year.
