Post CF: Prayer in School

<a href="http://www.christianforums.com/threads/23025.html" target="_blank">Watch Wildy Go!</a>

Wildy wrote a "nice" letter to the moderator about how not discussing the legality of prayer was supporting the lies of Christians who claim that you can't pray.

Sure wish those people who hate Ms. O'Hair so much would at least learn to spell her name. Oh well, I suppose it makes it clear they're not paying attention.

But it's the "armor of God" that blows me away. Winged boots? Are they confused about which God they worship? Has Mercury been inducted into the Christian pantheon? And they carry weapons like Battle Axe, Lance, Spear, Long Bow, Light Sabre???

Could we use something like that on the infidels board?

It's good to see someone paying serious attention to the rhetoric and details. Words are all these people have. To some of these folks, this is a war. Military terminology is easy for children to associate with, and what kid has not played King of the Hill?. This one in Seattle is pretty typical.

<a href="http://www.creatingfutures.net/thehillforjesus.html#positions" target="_blank"> Who is King of the Hill?</a>
(excerpts)
Quote:
"Claiming Capitol Hill for Jesus"

It is our goal to present the life-changing, uplifting Gospel message of Jesus Christ to the Capitol Hill and Seattle area to reach those bound up in crime, drugs, homelessness, promiscuity, homosexuality, false religion, atheism, and agnosticism.

They will want to be set free from the bondage they live in.

But in the future every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the Father.

The Hill For Jesus goal is to develop an 'army of soldiers' who are available for 'warfare' with other 'battalions', since we all have the same 'commander'-the Lord Jesus Christ.

Talking

My three children never felt any restriction in any of their schools to practice their freedom of religion in terms of a discreet prayer between them alone and God before a test or at their meal time. Of course they never felt they had to have any audience and be highly vocal about their private petition to God. It is interesting to me that fundamentalist christians contradict directly the very words of Christ who suggest that we pray privatly .......as to the National Day of Prayer, any religious person of any faith in any school should be free to address petitions to their own God as long as that time set apart does not interfere with school time. For example the group of evangelical students in my older daughter's high school chose lunch time to gather together in prayer which allowed also teachers and administrators of the same faith to join the assembly of prayer. Using prayer as a tool of evangelism turns it into a form of endoctrination. It is soly a form of communication and a heartfelt one between a believer and his or her God. It needs no demonstration with an audience who will repeat senseless phrases. As believers we have opportunities to pray demonstrativly in our churches and homes. It is only showing respect of others to keep it private but always sincere.
I also believe that a muslim student should be given a private area to perform his prayer as often as his faith requires it ( mostly because muslims must be in a lower position as they pray and it requires some physical demonstration on their part as part of their prayer ritual). The Freedom of Religion does not stop behind the doors of any building.... but it must not interfere with the activities conducted in that building. There is a right balance somewhere and none of the excessive demands of fundamentalists are helping the situation. So much energy is wasted on the " right to do this and the right to do that" . And the needy ones continue to be needy and the helpless to not be helped. I am continuously disheartened by my fellow believers who fuel the fire rather than be peacemakers.

Well, most of the rest of us are continually disheartened (not to mention utterly baffled) by just about everything they do, so thanks for being sensible and honest.
