Amanita muscaria is a commonly occurring mushrooms that contain ibotenic acid and muscimol; both substances react with neurotransmitter receptors in the central nervous system producing alternating phase of drowsiness and agitation with hallucinations and sometimes convulsions.

Okay, so ... I go out and eat a bunch of mildly hallucinigenic mushrooms (which I hate; all mushrooms are horrible little fungi that taste terrible). Then, I'm supposed to hike until I'm exhausted (which I've done in the past), and, eating the mildly hallucinigenic mushrooms while my muscles ache and my brain is likely a little low on O2, I'm supposed to become open to God?
Wow, no wonder I haven't discovered Jesus before now. That's a lot of work! Most thesits simply tell me to pray for Jesus to open my heart to him. Rubber, have you done this? What was described above? If so, how can you be certain that your experience was *not* simply the psychotropic result of halucinigens, lack of oxygen, and (probably) queasiness from eating all those horrible little fungi on an empty stomach? --W@L |

...thanks, W@L, for reminding me of what I forgot to mention: if you do follow the advice given in the OP, be sure to pack-in with lots of toilet paper; nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea are very common side effects.

I often go to the "wilderness" and get f-ed up on drugs. More often the desert than any type of wood or other terrain. I don't think it makes a difference, it's just based on where I live (ie: near the desert).
A lot of the people I go with like to wax philosophical about life, the universe, and everything. I prefer to keep my mouth quiet and let my mind, eyes, and body trip (literally) on the beauty that is in the stars, the plants, the dunes, the humans and animals around me. Yet, somehow, we always come back atheists! ?! Sorry, rubbercock, I've tried many times, but Jeebus and Gawd have yet to show themselves to me. |

I was in an ER getting my leg stitched up when an ambulance brought in some poor kid whacked out on mushrooms. Trust me, it wasn't a pretty sight.
I just want you to know that the most meaningful experience one can have is merging with the light. Make sure you go on green and stop on red, though. Merging with love itself. Be sure to wear your protection. Love gets around, you know. To see just what God is. Gaze into the vastness of space, and behold the nothingness... I too have been known for my "unbelief" days. And still have the "Wanted" posters and jailhouse tattoos to prove it. I am not saying to join a church. Join with love instead. Fewer splinters that way. Just join your intellect with possibilities. Any 'ole thing you can dream up will do. One fantasy's as good as another. I just challenge anyone here to go to the wilderness for a week only with water and the drink called Soma. Or, if you can't find that brand, Zima is a passable substitute. Have faith that you will experience what I like to call, reality. Ticks, hunger, sunburn and diarreah? No matter what you beleive. I have taken atheists with me before to the wilds and they come back believers. Yeah, believing that the next time you go camping with them, they're not gonna put you in charge of the food. Jesus is the way, the truth and the light for me. How about you? I prefer a tent, sleeping bag, good cigars, some bourbon, and a brace of fresh trout on the coals. |
