Although I've been godless all my life, I still love putting up lights, decorating a tree, giving gifts and sipping some spiked eggnog. When believers tell me I should remember the true meaning of Christmas, I tell them the true meaning of Christmas is the spirit of giving, being kind, being with family & freinds... and really has nothing to do with religion.

I guess I could make it a religion and start worshiping Santa Claus
I'm with you, Chuck. [/Peppermint Patty] Xmas is about the spirit of giving! Although I haven't been godless all my life, I still enjoy the celebration of the Xmas season! I like most of the secular holiday tunes ("Grandma got run over by a reindeer!"), but if I want to listen to religious carols, I prefer to hear them sung auf Deutsch ('O Tannenbaum' is so much better than 'O Xmas Tree')!

Pass the nog!

Oh, good. Well, then for the record, not all baptists are fucking idiots.

JGL - I'm not in a Southern Baptist church. The leadership of the SBC has - indeed - forgotten everything that baptists have traditionally believed about church-state separation. There's still considerable diversity in the local churches. Nevertheless, I can't allow myself to be associated with a group that supports the oppression of women and GLBT persons.

Consequently, my ministerial credentials are with The Alliance of Baptists

*pause because two women are making out on Conan*

Back now. Our church is dually-aligned with the UCC, so I have credentials with them as well. Both groups support separation of church and state and full inclusion of women and GLBT persons in their communities of faith.

(P.S. The church website is my own work, so only positive comments welcome . )

ooooooooooooooooooooh, I like that!

got me laughing out loud

Ok, nice web site! Now if you tell me that your financial records are open to the public for accountability and that your church is willing to pay taxes, then I'll join.. sign up.. say yes.. be baptized.. give my soul to God.. be converted!

Cool beans..

she'd been drinking too much eggnog
and we begged her not to go
she forgot her medication
and she staggered out the door into the snow..

Yes, I was surprised to find this out, in fact. A lot of Baptists are really Calvinists these days.
