Post Unintentionally amusing quote

Just browsing around, and saw this curious series of words:
Quote:
**Born-again Christians are slightly more likely than non-Christians to go through a divorce, with 26% of born-agains and 22% of non-Christians having gone through a divorce at soem tome in their life (1999).

These data are disturbing, especially when you consider Christians have access to the transforming power of the gospel.
To me, it seems rather amusing. An interesting ststistic, as well.

Got it from <a href="http://www.christianity.com/partner/Article_Display_Page/0,,PTID4820|CHID103348|CIID405734,00.html" target="_blank">here</a>

Christianity obviously doesn't help with spelling either.

I wonder if that stat takes into account whether both spouses were born-again or just one of them? I know that if I had to share a house with a fundy, I'd be out the door quicker than she could say "heretic".

Perhaps the reason for the increased divorce rate is simply due to the fact that one partner becomes born-again and the other doesn't, which would change the whole dynamic of the relationship and this could lead to a higher incidence of divorce in those cases, which could potentially push the rate a few percentage points higher than the national average.

By the writeup of the book, it doesn't sound like the author takes possibilities like that into account, though, and just recommends better praying.

Interesting stat. Some fundies are eerily quiet about that when I mention it in a conversation.

Hmm. Living evidence that the transforming power of the gospel isn't exactly a good thing.

Well, maybe. However, wouldn't such a situation increase the divorce rate for Christians and nonChristians?

When this came up in another discussion, the response was that it stands to reason that Satan would be trying much harder to derail the lives of born-again Christians, because everybody else already belongs to him.

I suspect part of that divorce rate is due fundamentalist women to marrying young, and then as they get older they realize being submissive helpmeets to their husband sucks, so they wise up and move out.
