Good question sweep;

However, I prefer a 'medicine wheel' as a necklace,

and a 'dream catcher' over my rear-view mirror.

If you know what these items are/represent,

you'd probably be tempted to call me 'pagan'.

It's interesting to note that archaeologists find
no Christian symbols of the cross from the
beginnings of Christianity. The thought from
the documentary that I watched stated the cross
was originally considered a symbol of shame
rather than an ideal.

Alright, he died for our sins, but we don't need to remind ourselves, how he died, do we?
I am not a Christian, well not anymore that is. But your question remind me of the struggle of a lot of people worldwide. In the Philippines, we commemorate our national heroes on their death anniversary, instead of their birth anniversary.

I guess America remeber the day Kennedy was shot readily than the day he was born. The same thing, I believe, with Mohandas Gandhi, Indira and so much more.

The reason for this is that nothing moves people to action quite like death. The world didn't particularly care about the situation of the Jews when they were being stripped of properties and dignity by the Nazi. But when the abuses reached the point of people being killed, there were tremendous outcry against it.

The Christian do the same thing when they put on the cross. 2000 years ago, a great injustice was done to them. What better way to remind them than the instrument of his death. Indeed, what better way.

(of course, other christian put the cross on to shield them from bullet. )

Who are 'we' ? The idea is quite consistent whith what I know about the workings of Roman rule. (Just in general, not specifically in Judea). I am however by no means an expert and you seem to have other information. Can you provide a link or a source ? I am interested.

The Romans executed Jesus as a subversive who had begun to rouse the people against their Roman oppressors. The authors of the Gospels took their lead from Paul and did their best to shift the blame to the Jews. If the fledgling religion was to survive it had to do so in a Roman world and it could not afford to offend the Empire by saying it had killed their God who then proved it ineffectual by coming back to life. Forty years later the Romans showed no hesitation in destroying Judea when faced with an uprising that differed from Jesus' only by its' degree of success.

VERY interesting...

Any historical evidence to back that up with?
