What do you think about clothes?
Why do you think Humans wear clothes that cover our private parts but animals do not? Do you think it is because of Adam and Eve or because we naturally feel more secure in them? Do you think there was a time where we recognized that we had private parts? What do you think about this? This is an interesting topic discussed frequently and I would like your input. Thanks.

I think it had more to do with needing protection from the elements than any notions of modesty. Unlike most animals, we dont have layers of blubber, or thick enough body hair to do any good, or the ability to hibernate during the coldest months of the year.

Yes, I for one don't care too much about the morality of clothes, but there are certain, ahem, support-related issues that I need taken care of.

for the environment we came from, being bare naked instead of a hairy ape (such as myself) was an advantage...
But thanks to our extra brain power, we could move north, to the latitudes where some sort of covering is required at least a few months out of the year. Of course, this provided the seed for fasion and 'cool clothes' (whatever the cave man word for 'cool' is... gonna have to watch Encino Man again to find out), etc., which extends clothing use to non-winter months as well. So the reason I wear clothes is two fold. A: Its traditional in summer months, and in Fort Mac, its a requirement during the winter. and B: most people would not want to see my ass. |

It goes way beyond appearance. It's not surprising that people cover up their bodies given all the games they play socially to try to impress others or win affirmation. I think there's interesting symbolism in Adam and Eve that goes far beyond them covering up their bodies. If God has undone in Christians what the fall did then how come Christians still put so much effort into pretending they are 'good Christians', into not admitting who they really are? Why can't they be honest and feel no shame? That seems odd to me. love Helen |

Good point! Why don't Christians walk around naked all the time?

It has to do with a strong sense of modesty for me. I feel extremely uncomfortable until I've showered and dressed in the mornings, even when it's a holiday and my mother is encouraging me to lie around in my pajamas.
I don't know where it came from, as no one else in my family seems to have it, and I wasn't raised with "Christian" ideas of modestry. Is it possible to pick up ideas by osmosis? . -Perchance. |

Many, many years ago I and a couple of friends celebrated our approaching graduation by streaking our high school.
I learned then why even in warm climates and unbodyphobic cultures men wear a loin cloth for physical activity. |
