What I can't figure is this:
Didn't God supposedly make everything? Didn't God make doctors? Didn't God make medicine? My daughter has asthma. Before we figured that out, she had some nasty breathing incidents. If I were a religious man, I would have been praying for deliverance. When we rushed her to the doctor, the doctor used some spiffy meds that cleared things right up. If I were a religious person, wouldn't that be the ANSWER to my prayers? To be logically consistent, these people should have no possessions whatsoever, including clothes, shelter, and food. They should just pray for everything. It doesn't come from God unless its clearly supernatural in origin. Jamie |

Abbreviated version of a joke:
Horrible flood, Bob climbs up on the roof of his house, guy comes by in a rowboat and says "jump in, I'll take you to dry land". Bob says "no, my God will save me". Flood waters get higher, and guy comes by in a motorboat "No, my God will save me". Flood gets even higher, and a helicopter comes by "No, my God will save me". Guy drowns in flood, goes to heaven and asks God "Why didn't you save me?" God replies "I sent two boats and a helicopter, what more do you want?" |

There have been similar cases in the US. A religious zealot couple let their baby die relying on God to save him. She gave birth at home. The baby's mouth needed suctioning, a simple, routine procedure that L&D nurses do. The baby suffocated. While the state was prosecuting them, it was found that she was pregnant again! The state wanted to lock her up until she gave birth to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again. I don't know what the outcome was.
How about those women in Utah who asphyxiated a little girl during a "rebirthing" ceremony. They were trying to duplicate the experience of a vaginal birth by rolling the girl in a carpet while they pressed on her. I think they were convicted of accidental manslaughter. All in the name of GOD! A long time ago I got into a "discussion" with a JW and his young son (12 years old). I brought up the subject of blood transfusions. After he finished his explanation of why they refuse blood transfusions, I said "that may fine for you to make that decision, but,if your son gets into a nasty accident, and is bleeding to death, what right do you have to make that decision for him? You'd let him die for YOUR beliefs?" The father said "Yes". The kid turned to his father and yelled "You would LET ME DIE???!!" as I closed my front door. |

ummmmm...... {consider, members: that just very- possibly -- as in similar stuff where a woman aborts her contents ---- the kid who was , essentially, murdered may very well be better off dead.... considering what happens to too-many isolated infants & young kids ; the abuse/brutalizing of whom no-one learns about until after they've been brutalled to death.] For me, the death of 6 y.o. Lisa called-"Steinberg" is the classic & unanswerable argument against ever believing in any "gawd" or in any of the rest of that shit. Abe

Crims hate babykillers. In prison, they'll be down at the bottom of the heap with the pedophiles. I hope being locked up with unrighteous who revile them, will be an extra-traumatic inprisonment.

Well, the majority of people in prison ARE the righteous, if I remember my statistics.
Abe - I don't understand your post. Clarify? |

It won't put off the parent, but it sounds like you got the kid to question what he was being indoctrinated with. cheers, Michael |

a couple of days ago NPR had a feature on a small-town banker who ripped off the local bank. One of the churches lost about $80K, and when asked about it the minister said something along the lines of "well, that was God's money, and if he wants to take it away that's fine, and if God wants us to have more he'll see we get it". I really don't need to hear that kind of stuff when I'm in rush hour traffic! cheers, Michael |

But these two babykillers are definitely going to consider their fellow inmates 'unrighteous' and yet find they are reviled by same. That's what I'm getting at. |
