The Israelis tried to give them back. The palestinians rejected and have rejected all offers of peace for the simple reason that they do not want a peace that includes a state of Israel. Do you have any idea how easy it would be for Israel to wipe every palestinian off the face of the earth? They do not do so and continue to try to find a solution. If the situation was reversed, would the palestinians refrain? Stop making me laugh, my sides are hurting.

The West Bank and the Gaza Strip were part of the territory of Palestine rpior to the declaration of the State of Israel in 1948; they were part of the territory of Israel at the time the state was declared and recognised by the (member states of the) United Nations. In the war that immediately followed, the West Bank was occupied by Transjordan (now Jordan) and the Gaza Strip by Egypt; admittedly, both countries were awarded those respective territories in the peace treaty that ended the Arab-Israeli War of 1948, but arguably Israel did not so much occupy these territories in the Six Day war of 1967 as retake them. Anyway, we're miles off-topic here; this discussion really belongs in "political." The original comparison we were discussing was not "how does the Israeli government compare to Nazis?" (and I'll just comment that comparing the Israelis to the South African regime of the Apartheid period would hold more water than comparing them to the Nazis), it was "how do American 'Conservative Christians' compare to European Jews of the 1930s and 1940s?" |
