Wiccan cannot lead prayer
Sounds like a slam-dunk for the ACLU:

AU will probably win but the courts will still allow the government endorsment of religion. The practice will be determined constitutional as long as the practices only discriminate against Atheists.

Lynn added, "... This is about as blatant as you can get."
That's for sure. This Miller character needs the clue-by-four. |

That link doesn't seem to be working. Seems to be a problem on the Washington Post server. but here's a link for it at the AU website:

OutFuckingStanding!
I wondered if Simpson would pursue this. I'm delighted she did. I used to listen to Wisconsin Public Radio's Ideas Network (mostly intelligent talk radio) constantly when I lived there, and every time there was somebody advocating for prayer in schools, I'd call in. The proponents were always at pains to point out that all faiths would be allowed to offer the prayer. Each time I got on the air, I'd ask if it would be ok for me, as a satanist (I lied--Bad Dog), to lead the prayer. And EVERY SINGLE TIME the response was uncomfortable sputtering, like they'd never even considered that it would be anything but a judeo-xian prayer. Which is why I've harbored a secret suspicion that the best thing for the wall might be to let theists tear it down a bit and live for a few years with the chaos that would ensue. Of course, this was in the days before they'd come up with the "xian tradition" argument and obfuscations and lies to support it. But I think this is just peachy. |

Yes, there's a certain delicious irony in the fact of us atheists saving the Christian Community from itself.
