Post What does this verse mean?

I'd like to get everyones (CowboyX especially)
opinion on just exactly what the author was
trying to say with this verse. What's the
scholarly concensus?

Psalms 90:4 : “For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past.”

If "The Thousand Year Reign" is in your sight it will be fresh like the memories of yesterday.

Hmm... if my interpretation is correct, I do rather like this quote.
The author seems to be saying, in my opinion, live life for the moment, squeeze as much in as you can, cause once its finsihed, it'll seem like it all went by in an instant.

But looking at the grammatical structure of the verse:
“For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past.”
A thousand years in sight? From what point of view? Looking back, or to the future?
Hmm...

World's Youngest Atheist--

Let me be the first old, angry atheist to teach you an important lesson. Lots of Bible quotes sound modern, and maybe even engaging if they are taken out of context.

In this case, the entire verse wasn't even quoted. When given chapter and verse, READ the chapter and verse before coming to an opinion.

Because I agree with you. Given the quote offered, this sounds like some deep insight into the nature of human vs humankind.

But put in context, and it is just like all of the Bible--"WATCH OUT FOR THE BIG SCARY GOD". Allow me to demonstrate:

Psalm 90 1-4 (unabridged):

Quote:
"Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

You turn us back to dust and say, 'Turn back, you mortals.'

For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past,
or like a watch in the night."
The author is saying, "Hey God, you are such a Bad-Ass, that one day to us puny humans is like a 1000 years to you. That's how cool you are, God. Please don't crush us" or as the same author put it in Psalm 90 Verse 9:

Quote:
For all our days pass away under your wrath

If what is called "Today" in scriptures is an "everlasting day" (which were in) The thousand years are as yesterday (or what other translations say) or "as a day" when it has PAST

You have to figure what "it" is

The "eternal day" started at the cross calling it "Today" so now that "it" (looking back at the cross)has passed the thousand years is as a day

Man... that was tough I kept getting lost in the words lol!

I did my homework. I went to http://bible.gospelcom.net read the entire passage, and came to the same conclusion as you.

I mistakenly looked that one up at bible.gospelcom and thought the same thing.

We atheists are smart folk.

I think the ParadiseDreams2 post is worth a thousand words

Of course, you don't 'buy' into any of that, PD2,...not literally anyhow

Panta... That verse is difficult to explain. The majority of Christians think it applies literally to a Reign that took place place already. They believe a "day" with God is a thousand years and so they keep waiting for something that already took place and don't know what that verse is speaking about. A thousand years can be seen as A DAY. but they think a day to God is a thousand years and so they tarry awaiting a big "event" that will never happen.

I must admit that one was hard to tackle on its own without other verses to aide the interpretation.

But to each his own whatever it means to someone else let it mean it to them

It is really very easy if you know what it means and nothing in life is difficult if know what you are doing (nothing personal here).

Unless one is in the "Thousand Year Reign" it is difficult to see what it looks like and "recall from both the old and the new."
