Egyptian Book of the Dead
I found these interesting links.
Did Moses have the knowledge of a possible ten commandments ..."before" the exodus? My apologies if this is a repeat of old stuff http://members.aol.com/TAOofAPU/maat.htm The Principles of Ma'at -------------------------------------------------- Written at least 2,000 years before the Ten Commandments of Moses, the 42 Principles of Ma'at are one of Africa's, and the world's, oldest sources of moral and spiritual instruction. Ma'at, the Ancient Egyptian divine Principle of Truth, Justice, and Righteousness, is the foundation of natural and social order and unity. Ancient Africans developed a humane system of thought and conduct which has been recorded in volumes of African wisdom literature, such as, these declarations from the Book of Coming Forth By Day (the so-called Book of the Dead), The Teachings of Ptah-Hotep, the writings of Ani, Amenemope, Merikare, and others. Today, we can use these principles as a practical guide to moral and spiritual excellence, and to uplift our community. Let your life be an example and live justly, for if Justice remains a firm foundation, your children will prosper, The teachings of Ptah-hotep, 2370 B.C -------------------------------------------------- I have not done iniquity. I have not robbed with violence. I have not stolen. I have not made any to suffer pain. I have not defrauded offerings. I have done no murder nor bid anyone to slay on my behalf. I have not trimmed the measure. I have not spoken lies I have not robbed God. I have not caused the shedding of tears. I have not dealt deceitfully. I have not acted guilefully. I have not laid waste to the land. I have not set my lips against anyone. I have not been angry or wrathful without a just cause. I have not lusted nor defiled the wife of any man. I have not polluted myself. I have not caused terror. I have not done that which is abominable. I have not multiplied words exceedingly. I have never uttered fiery words. I have not judged hastily. I have not transgressed nor have I vexed or angered God. I have not stopped my ears against the words of Right and Truth . I have not burned with rage. I have not worked grief. I have not acted with insolence. I have not avenged myself. I have not stirred up strife. I have not been an eavesdropper. I have not wronged the people I have done no harm nor have I done evil I have not worked treason. I have never fouled the water. I have not spoken scornfully. I have never cursed God. I have not behaved with arrogance. I have not envied or craved for that which belongs to another. I have not filched food from the mouth of the infant. I have done no hurt unto man, nor wrought harm unto beasts. I have never magnified my condition beyond what was fitting. -------------------------------------------------- http://www.wsu.edu:8080/~dee/EGYPT/BOD125.HTM |

196. If a man put out the eye of another man, his eye shall be put out. [ An eye for an eye ] 200. If a man knock out the teeth of his equal, his teeth shall be knocked out. [ A tooth for a tooth ]. You can read this text in Paris, in the Louvre, France. The source of the Mosaic law is Hammurabi http://doormann.org/hammur.htm. "Sargon, the mighty king, king of Agade, am I. My mother was a changeling, my father I knew not. The brother(s) of my father loved the hills. My city is Azupiranu, which is situated on the banks of the Euphrates. My changeling mother conceived me, in secret she bore me. She set me in a basket of rushes, with bitumen she sealed My lid. She cast me into the river which rose not (over) me, The river bore me up and carried me to Akki, the drawer of water. Akki, the drawer of water lifted me out as he dipped his e[w]er. Akki, the drawer of water, [took me] as his son (and) reared me. Akki, the drawer of water, appointed me as his gardener, While I was a gardener, Ishtar (Venus) granted me (her) love, And for four and [ ... ] years I exercised kingship, The black-headed [people] I ruled, I gov[erned]; Mighty [moun]tains with chip-axes of bronze I conquered, The upper ranges I scaled, The lower ranges I [trav]ersed, The sea [lan]ds three times I circled. Dilmun my [hand] cap[tured], [To] the great Der I [went up], I [. . . ], [ . . . ] I altered and [. . .]. Whatever king may come up after me, [. . .] Let him r[ule, let him govern] the black-headed [peo]ple; [Let him conquer] mighty [mountains] with chip-axe[s of bronze], [Let] him scale the upper ranges, [Let him traverse the lower ranges], Let him circle the sea [lan]ds three times! [Dilmun let his hand capture], Let him go up [to] the great Der and [. . . ]! [. . .] from my city, Aga[de ... ] [. . . ] . . . [. . .]. (Remainder broken away.) " BTW. There were also some 'wise social help functions' in Sumer. The people in Sumer have lived prior to ~2200 BCE. 1. Into an open mouth, a fly enters. 2. The traveler from distant places is a perennial liar. 3. Friendship lasts a day; kinship lasts forever. 4. A sweet word is everybody's friend. 5. A loving heart builds the home; a hating heart destroys the home. 6. A scribe whose hand moves as fast as his mouth, that's a scribe for you! 7. A singer whose voice is not sweet is a poor singer indeed. 8. In a city without dogs, the fox is the overseer. 9. Don't pick it now; later it will bear fruit. 10. Who has much silver may be happy; who has much grain may be glad; but he who has nothing can sleep. Volker |

Indeed.
Unfortunately, Chimp, old Volker has a problem if you ask about the truth about astrology. Anyways, aside from being a probable myth, you will find if you check some of the book on archaeology on the "Recommended Reading List" you will find out that current understanding is that the Exodus never happened . . . so the writers of the myth had to bring in the stuff from someplace.
