Creationists, please explain how teeth are the result of intelligent design
How can anyone believe teeth to be the result of intelligent design. Despite today's dentistry, teeth can cause a lot of problems even for those who brush and floss regularly.
A lowly human being like myself can think of many ways they could have been improved. You could have some sort of natural mechanism to clean the teeth. The enamel could repair itself just like a cut on skin heals. For that matter, humans could regrow teeth that fall out like sharks do. Wisdom teeth almost always cause problems and should have been left out altogether. Why do teeth so frequently come in crooked? Why do the nerves in the mouth need to be so sensitive? The almighty needs to go back to the drawing board as far as teeth are concerned. Any creationists care to explain this? Let me guess. Adam and Eve had perfect teeth and the problems the rest of the human race had are do to the fall. That's it! Brag about the perfection of god's creation and use sin to explain away those embarassing imperfections. |

It's what they'll say. You know they will. What's that? Was it "COPOUT!" that I just heard? |

My favorite C vs E tooth story is one I've seen on this forum (and would really like a literature citation for): some baleen whales grow the beginnings of teeth as embryos/fetuses, but then give up on them as a Bad Idea for a life of straining krill, and grow baleen instead. I don't know if even Duane Gish can get that one to be because of the Fall.

as for human teeth and a vegetarian diet, I don't think people like that take into account that our enamel is too thin, a vegetarian diet that isn't thoroughly washed of all dirt will wear our teeth away in no time.

and on a painfully ironic note, my own teeth reminded me of how relatively fragile they are by having a bit of the enamel chip off one of my teeth when it came into contact with a particularly hard bit of muesli just then...
Rather painful, to be honest (guess who's going to get round to booking a dental appointment soon.) |
