Freethinker Spam
Guessing on the proper forum for this appeal...
There have been several threads on IIDB regarding Godspam. I'm sure we have all received it. Some anecdote or other reinforcing the religious conservative's assertions that we need to bring God into the centerstage of American Society to solve all of our social problems (except for a few like overpopulation, civil rights, women's rights, reproductive rights and sexual repression). The ones that irritate me the most are the those that link religion to patriotism. I've seen some rebuttals to particular religious spam pieces and I've seen some documents sliced and diced when they propogate misinformation. What I have *not* seen are any similar essays floating around expounding on the benefits of a secular society, removing God from the Pledge and the U.S. currency, removing religion from the educational system or explaining the joys of sexual freedom and experimentation. Has anybody received anything like this? Does anybody know of an online source for short, to the point, essays or anecdotes suitable for sharing which are in the public domain? FWIW, I'm not planning a spam campaign but I would like to have a collection of resources to draw from and respond with when people e-mail me or post their religious dogma. JAI |

Actually, I've done it. I sent essays and links that are great to all the christians who I've had email debates with. (a disturbing number). I am a small time free thought spammer. I always envision one of mine catching on and circling the world, but I don't think it will happen.

Because godspam does not work. Think about it. All it does is make the already-believers feel all warm and toasty about their myth, while making the rest of us even more pissed off. Sending atheistspam would have the same effect (of course, switching the audiences around.) Unless you consider making us feel warm & toasty and pissing off the uber-religious to be a worthy cause, which now that I think about it, it is.

A while ago I had started something called the "Truth Email Network." I've got just over 100 people on my list, and send something out every few weeks if I can. Either I or a friend will decide on a pertinent story or event, or piece of history to pass on. It's important that essays on the inception of God into our society get passed around. The idea with the "Truth" chain is that it gets sent out and then forwarded to whoever you want. The bottom of the email gives an option to respond if the person wants to receive more of this type of email, and also gives instructions to remove yourself from the list. Since it's a chain mail, people respond to the person who sent it to them with the word "remove" in the title.
It sounds like a few of the folks here would be interested in such a chain mail. If you are interested please send me a note asking to be added to the "Truth list." |

I try to celebrate Spinoza's birthday (Nov. 24) by composing something and sending it out. Unfortunately I've yet to have anything come back to me as spam.
