Oh, I'd noticed. (I've mentioned to her that I've actually read the Summa Theologica, and have yet to receive a response on THAT quarter.) I just figured I'd give her a chance to explain why she feels the "please" is such a devastating refutation.

Hey. anything's possible.

Question

Gemma,

Please, what?!?!?!?!

Your one-liners are getting really tired. If you have anything substantive to say in response to my post, please do. Otherwise (self-edit, Lauri. self-edit...... deep breath. Whew!)

Wow, a whole day went by with nobody catching my gaffe...

I really should have voted for creationism as the worst theistic position--since I stated that ID really is creationism, I can't exactly call it 'other', can I?

Oh, well. Mea culpa and all that.

My reasoning:

Although I find the "Faith-Based Initiative" repugnant and blatantly unconstitutional, I harbor hope that either A) it will be found to be so or B) it will be done away with my a future (hopfully SOON!) administration.

Similarly, while the fact that even the *idea*of creationism being taught in schools in this day and age absolutely boggles my mind, I think that it will eventually go the way of the dinosaur. (HA!) I think the cretinists are fighting a losing battle against science.

HOWEVER.... the deeply corrupt and ethically indefensible institution that some people like to call The Roman Catholic Church still, in the year 2003, has a virtual stranglehold on millions the world over, many of whom are living in poverty, ignorance and with no access to information that might free them from their current position of being intimidated and cowed into unfettered reproduction by a "moral authority" that threatens them with hellfire and damnation.

As a direct result of this, hundreds of thousands of children are born into abject poverty and (often brief) lives of unbelievable suffering.

A Benevolent God's "Master Plan"? I think not.
Exactly! There are probably other things I could have come up with had I given it much more thought, but this one really is good. I just read something the other day how this Ethiopian (sp?) village has filled 3 graveyards in the last two years with the bodies of children! It's bad enough that these kids die from stupid things that might cause you or I just to miss a day of work/school, but you've also got to think of the mothers whose lives are probably shortened due to the stresses and strains of child-bearing and birth. Overpopulation is a huge problem in that area of the world, and especially with AIDS running rampant there too. The article said that during the height of one drought, this one area was losing a child a DAY! That's just ridiculous.

Still another reason why I hate the Catholic Church.

I think Gemma's trying to say, "I'm stupid, PLEASE chloroform me, put me in a steamer trunk, and mail me back to the Vatican".

Catholic Church's opposition to birth control

People in poorer/overpopulated countries are dying because of this moronic stance. *sigh* Just how stubborn can the church get?

I put Other. What I find most disturbing is this trend we are seeing with the fundies, claiming that GW was sent from God to do his bidding, so nothing he does is questioned. I guess this isn't a specific political objective, other than the entire Religious Right objective and how they are working to bring us into the Dark Ages of religious oppression.

Really just anything to do with that fuckwad of a President!
