Exclamation Why haven't you listened to Gemma Therese?

It may be a challenge to come up with reasons for an atheist should convert (though Gemma has done a pretty good job of that). But how can you still think of Catholicism as harmful after reading her posts? I can't.

Thumbs down

Can you please quote some instances in which GT was particularly persuasive? I must have missed those posts....

In the "Where was God" thread, where it says, "If God can be disproved through events of extreme suffering, why can he not be proved through events of extreme altruism?"

Yes. If bad things in the world count against God, then good things count for him. Either it is wrong to say that there is no evidence for God, or it is wrong to say that evil is evidence against him.

That would be a very persuasive argument for a weak, or evil, or stupid god.

Not for one who is omnipotent, omnibenevolent, omniscient, or omni- anything.

Do you really want to take that argument to its logical conclusion? The way I see it, if that's the case, then all we are left with is a fickle god whose actions are indistinguishable from random chance.

You're joking, right? You can't really be serious about either those statements, can you?

Yes. If bad things in the world count against God, then good things count for him. Either it is wrong to say that there is no evidence for God, or it is wrong to say that evil is evidence against him.

So the two cancel out, giving a net sum of zero. Therefore, god doesn't exist.
