A funny theory about Language
One thing I observe about language is the tendency for it to titillate one's emotions. It can trigger a response to descend into tears or break out in laughter. A baby first enters the world vocalizing, and you guessed it it's crying, not joining a gossip session with the midwives.
So I speculate that language first elvolved as just a mechanism to <a href="http://www.funny.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Funny.woa" target="_blank"> titillate your emotions </a> |

But language itself doesn't do anything for your emotions, its always the words themselves. You can't just say "Blarg!" and expect people to burst into tears. If "Blarg" means "I'm going to kill you!" then maybe it would work, but there is nothing in the word itself that merits this reaction. I think that this theory is getting the causes and effects mixed up.

For what it's worth, "Blarg" made me laugh...
