Smile Bought the "Star Trek - Nemesis" DVD, and I must say...

...the extra interviews and features put the movie in a better light. At least they tried to explain where there were going with it (even if it never got there).

Still, they should have kept Wesley in, and they should have made Sela (Denise Crosby) the Romulan Commander like they had panned in the first place.

With Sela as the Romulan Commander it would have been better. What frustrates me the most about the movie was that I could see what they were trying to do, and (for the most part) liked their ideas, but their execution was horrible. It came off as an incoherent mess, which is too bad because I really really wanted to like it.

Oh yeah, and the whole B-9 subplot should have been left on the cutting room floor.

I'm curious about the DVD though - maybe I'll check it out.

We haven't watched the extra footage yet, but we were very disappointed in the ending. (Data!!)

I think you meant B-4.

I stilll think the ship action sequence was the best to date in all the movies. THe movie did require you to fill in the blanks and Riker's fight was a bit of nothing, but I also walked into the movie not knowing what was going to happen, having seen no spoilers, so that adds a bit to the film.

That was my thought too, but Stewart explains on the DVD that they wanting to have a parallel story about "family" and "what makes us, us."

So the B-4 story was meant to convey the idea that you can look the same, come from the same origin and even share the same memories, but you'd still be "different".

That, of course, was meant to address Picard's fear that he and Shinzon were really more alike than he'd want to acknowledge.

I don't think it worked that well, though. Personally, I wanted another Khan (I really wanted them to include Tomolok).

But anyway...

The DVD is worth it for the original final scene. Pretty funny. (And Marina Sirtis, I must say, has agred well - perhaps the best of all of them).

I also walked in unspoiled. Perhaps that's why I was saying, an hour into the picture, "What's this all about?" (Right around the time Picard says exactly the same thing.) The trouble is, it wasn't about much. And it went about telling that limited story using every cliche in the book, including the "Crippled Starships Battle in a Nebula."

I disagree with Walross; the execution was okay, as far as sci-fi filmmaking goes. But what were they executing? Not much.

Is there going to be another film? I know Insurrection wasn't liked too much, though I thought it was a very good film. With Nemesis receiving the same fan fare as Insurrection, are they less likely to continue? How many times can the Enterprise be destroyed? And is it even possible for a radiation to attack only carbon based material at the subatomic level? (That got a huh, what the heck? out of me at the theater).

Also, was I the only one who wanted to boo when Janeway popped up?

The movie seemed more like a long episode instead of a big-feature length movie. So far, with the exception of First Contact, STNG has not translated well to the big screen. From what I have read, there will be no more STNG movies.

And I love Data. He is by far my favorite character in all of sci-fi. I really enjoy Brent Spiner's acting as well. However, he is, I believe, 54 years old and really can't do Data anymore.

Patrick Steward refuses to do it anymore.

Does anyone else in the cast really matter all that much? Without Data and Captian Picard, they would all be space dust by now.

Interesting you should say that. Stewart notes in the DVD that he liked the ending of Nemesis and said "you have a perfect setup for a sequel right there."

I had heard that most of the characters (including Stewart) would consider another movie.

You never know, I suppose. They are getting a little weathered.
