does that carry to believe that it was closer the 50 years than of the 30, you do not find?

Not according to John Meier's treatment of this issue in v.1 of Marginal (pp 378-379. I don't have time to produce a citation or summarize his comments though. All I'll say is that he sees it as a round number given in mocking tones in regard to some grand claims from Jesus.

No, it was just that it struck jesus's contemporaries SO odd because jesus would have needed to be hundreds of years old to in their minds be capable. And to them he did not appear to be even an old man(50 was old for that era). They were just incredulous, and you can't read any more into it than that. They were displaying derision to him. The TONE is mocking. The statement is incredulous. You need to spend some time around some rabbi's...they are some cynical bastards, but you love them from the time you meet them.

BTW, at theologyweb there's a conversation that has tangental data on jesus DYING at around 50...I think it was Iraneas or somesuch as the source...You might be interested. I think it was one of the formal debates(though formal debate is too high a word or ideal for some of those skirmishes....)
