The Case for Faith
I been skimming through The Case For Faith. (The university Christian groups were handing out free stuff at an event I covered for the student paper.)
I'd describe it as jam-packed with dead horses that I've already seen flogged. And it does a pretty good job of saying things that are almost true. But the one section that actually angers me, in chapter #8, is called, Delving Beneath The Surface. In it, Lynn Anderson says, "I personally think all unbelief ultimately has some other underlying reason. Sometimes a person may honestly believe their problem is intellectual, but actually they haven't sufficiently gotten in touch with themselves to explore other possibilities." He argues that belief is a choice, and the reason an atheist won't believe is never because of genuine doubts. It's always because the atheist owns a strip club or something. So now I'm picturing a bunch of theists who read this refusing to take intellectual objections seriously, because they know there's some ulterior reason behind your disbelief. |
