Default Question

Was anyone here posting back in the days when Jay the Obscure was Moderator and there was only one board (then three)? Does anyone remember such handles as "CatJesus" or "Hawk"? How 'bout Shawn Rodgers (HAHAHAHAHA)?

Those were the days. We used to get groups together and invade CARM but sometimes CARM regulars would mount an attack and invade the Infidel's board.

If you weren't here back then - you missed out on some fantastic action.

What is CARM? Man I would have loved to have been here for the discussions then. Start it up again!

CARM is the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry. You can see it at http://www.carm.org/. I just checked it out and could not find their discussion boards. They used to have many for varyious topics like the Infidel's board of today.

Please understand that I am not, in any way, casting any aspersion whatsoever on the Infidel's board of today. I think there are some very knowledgable posters to be found. I was just wondering if any of the old gang was still around and reminescing about how fun it was to be on this board about four or five or six year's ago.

Yes, it was fun to gather a posse to take over the CARM board because the Moderator over there (I forgot his name) was exceedingly uptight and would go into "ban mode" when we came around. The bannings were quite arbitrary to say the least. So, we would go over there en mass and "hang out" for a week or so then return home (those of us who survived the bannings) to give each other high fives for a job well done - hehe. Of course, CARM did the same to us.

Shawn Rodgers was a regular here. He was the resident Fundy. He was a Seventh Day Adventist ----- excuse me, a dyslexic Seventh Day Adventist. If you have never experienced Shawn then, well, it is something one never forgets! If he found himself in dire straits with regard to some position then the worse his dyslexia became and his posts were utterly undecipherable.

Jay the Obscure was Jeffrey Jay Lawder. I think he founded the Infidel's but I'm not certain about that. I tell you, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Jeffrey. He is a class act all the way and proved himself a fair and impartial Moderator in that capacity. He wasn't one to crack the whip and a stickler to the rules, yet, when things got out of hand then he knew how to handle it.

Again, though, I do wish to emphasize that I do not think the board(s) today are inferior in any way. The Infidel's are in good hands, IMO.

So this site, or forum is primarily the work of one person? What happened to the legendary Jay?

The "Author Index" of the Library's "Modern Documents" Section reveals Jeffrey Jay Lawder to be a "co-founder" and "Past President" of Internet Infidel's. So, insofar as the Infidel's is concerned then there was more than just Mr. Lawder. If my memory serves me correctly, however, he was the only Moderator of the Discussion Board(s).

What happened? He retired. The "Author Index" does indicate that he has submitted articles in 2003. I left about the same time he did. There comes a point when debates and discussions with professed Christians becomes redundant - conversing on the same topics and engaging in the same dialogue. Therefore, I found another board which leaned more toward the creative side of things and I became a humorist - concocting stories and characters which, at the root, was supposed to serve in subverting Christian "proofs" of God, etc., or, it was just plain old making sport of Christian tendencies and stereotypes. That board is still around (on it's 3rd generation) but is now just a board of far left winged politicrats.
