Mr. Finch:

Not a "True Believer" (TM) any more, but I was raised in a fundie xian environment. I still remember being terrified every time I did something wrong that, if I was suddenly struck dead I'd go straight to hell if I didn't get the repentance for my sin just right, and quick about it too. I love my parents but I regret that I was raised in such a fearful, frightening environment.

haha, I've been diagnosed with clinical depression. It's listed in the DSM-IV as a mental illness. I don't have to repent! I stole some chewing gum too..

If there is no biblical defence for the age of accountability thing, how can fundamentalists (or anyone else for that matter) justify it?

My bet is they do so by thinking 'God couldn't be that unjust.' And yet they think that eternal hellfire is somehow just for an adult like me who is too stupid to understand the complex theological arguments that no doubt prove the existence of the Christian Triune God.

Oh, wait - I've been diagnosed with depression, too. Isn't it great to have that get out of Hell free clause? Is that in the Old Testament or the New? Or is this the Newer Testament, which basically says 'It's all a load of crap, really.'

Darwin's Finch:
Cool work with the Easter story - telling it with a straight face and leaving it up to the kid to decide...

How about that sweet little bedtime prayer for kids:

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep..
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take..

I have OCD... so does the salf-inflicted hardening of my heart towards god count as obsesive behavior which I have no control over? I sure hope my constant chanting of "Jesus was a bastard, and his mother was a whore" count.

I used to say that prayer!

How about all the native tribes in africa, south america, and north america? Did these people suffer eternal Hell just because God did not feel like gracing their presence with his amazing Son? If it is that important to believe in Christ, why didn't God do a better job spreading his message--at least to all the continents? Or maybe he did, and more than one religion is true? Which is it, buttercup: 1)God didn't care about the native americans, implying he is not fair, or 2) God sent more than one messenger, implying that your religion is not the only truth?

Me:
False dichotomy. 3) (Christian answer) Y'know, I haven't the foggiest what happens to those who haven't heard.
If you read in the Bible, I believe it's Romans 1, it says that God made us with an innate sense of Him. So we all know that there is One out there who created everything, therefore we all have knowledge of Him.

MOJO - JOJO:

I appreaciate the offer for a brew, but I'm not exactly of age yet-

And to everyone awaiting my numerous responses, I have not had the time to write everything out (between my chemistry paper and all my other homework) but I promise I will answer soon.
